Born in New York, Kristin spent her early years in Queens, and moved to Salt Lake City, Utah when she was ten. Starting at a young age her athletic experiences involved skiing and gymnastics. In Utah, Kristin turned to snowboarding and multiple team sports. In 2002 she started running and completed several races including a marathon. At the end of that year, without swimming or road bike experience, she competed in her first triathlon. With a first place win in her age group, she was hooked. Kristin quickly jumped into longer distance races and fell in love with endurance events, including triathlon, running and cycling. She continued to race while working as an exercise physiologist and completing her Master's degree in Integrative Physiology at CU Boulder, which she earned in 2005.
2008 was a pivotal year in which Kristin moved to California and began racing as a professional triathlete; it proved to be a challenging transitional and learning year. She also met and married her soulmate, Mike Iavarone. In the fall, they moved to Santa Cruz where they are happily living with their two dogs, Jasmine and Charlie. Recently Kristin completed the BASI⢠Pilates teacher training education, and she is currently student teaching at a local pilates studio, Body in Motion.
Kristin looks forward to racing in 2009 and continually getting faster and stronger. She is dedicated to improving, creating supportive, long-term relationships with her sponsors, and making positive contributions in her community via sports and education.
